Sheldon Pollock is Raghunathan Professor of South Asian Studies at Columbia University. He is the author or editor of numerous books, including The Language of the Gods in the World of Men: Sanskrit, Culture, and Power in Premodern India (2009); Literary Cultures in History: Reconstructions from South Asia (2003); and several translations from the Sanskrit.
