David Román is Professor of English and American Studies at the University of Southern California. He has published several books on American theatre and performance including Acts of Intervention: Performance, Gay Culture, and AIDS, which won the ATHE for Outstanding Book in Theatre Studies in 1998. He has been writing on AIDS and performance since the early 1990s. Román has also served as the chair of the Board of Directors of Highways Performance Space and as the Scholar in Residence for the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. He has been teaching courses on AIDS and the Arts for over twenty-five years at the University of Washington-Seattle, Yale University, and USC.
