Deborah Paredez is a poet and performance scholar.  She is the author of the poetry volume, This Side of Skin, and the critical study, Selenidad: Selena, Latinos, and the Performance of Memory.  Her poetry and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, Poetry, Latino Studies Journal, and elsewhere.  She is currently working on a documentary poetry book, Year of the Dog, that is a Latina chronicle of the Vietnam Era and a nonfiction book, American Diva, that explores the role of divas in U.S. culture. She teaches creative writing and ethnic studies at Columbia University and is Co-Founder and Co-Director of CantoMundo, a national organization for Latinx poets.
