Leon Wieseltier has been the literary editor of The New Republic since 1983. He is the author of Kaddish, among other books, and the editor of The Moral Obligation To Be Intelligent: Selected Essays of Lionel Trilling. His essays on cultural, political, and religious subjects have been widely published. His translations of Yehuda Amichai and other Hebrew poets have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, Poetry, and elsewhere. He was educated at Columbia College, Balliol College, Oxford, and Harvard University, where he was a member of the Society of Fellows.
