Since the beginning of her career, Marina Abramović (Belgrade, 1946) has been a pioneer of performance art. Her notable works include Rhythm 10 (1973), Rhythm 5 (1974), Rhythm 0 (1974), Balkan Baroque (1997), The House with the Ocean View (2002), Seven Easy Pieces (2005), and The Artist is Present (2010). Other notable works with artist and collaborator Ulay include: Relation in Space (1976), Breathing In, Breathing Out (1977), Rest Energy (1980), and The Great Wall Walk (1988). Abramović founded the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI), a platform for immaterial and long durational work to create new possibilities for collaboration among thinkers of all fields. Her most recent publication is Walk Through Walls: A Memoir (2016). Upcoming exhibitions include a retrospective at Moderna Museet, opening February 2017 and touring to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in June 2017.
