Dr. Rebecca Hayes Jacobs is currently a Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at the Museum of the City of New York, where she co-curated Germ City: Microbes and the Metropolis, on view through April 28th. Germ City explores the complex story of New York’s long battle against infectious disease. It reveals how our understanding of disease has changed us physically, socially, and culturally, and the surprising interplay between people and pathogens in an urban context. Rebecca will present on the process of curating the Germ City exhibition as an exercise in mapping the meaning of contagion on these multiple registers.

Rebecca received her Ph.D. in American Studies from Yale University. Ethnographic interviews, archival analysis, and an understanding of the built environment are all essential components of her research, teaching, and curatorial work.
